Politics has always been of interest to Irānian thinker as reflected in its traces in Pre-Islamic Periods. Politicians, philosophers, and scholars have touched upon it in different, ways. Great monographs and books on politics have been produced by ancient Iranian scholars that reflect their views on politics and government. Examples include master pieces by Fārābi, Abul Hasan Ameri, Khajeh Nazām Almulk, Khajeh Nasir Toosi and even Sa'di Shirāzi. An outstanding example is Afzaluddin Mohammad Ibn Hasan Maraghi Kāshāni, a great Iranian scholar known as Bābā Afzal of late 6th and early 7th centuries (A.H). He has been an influential figure in the Islamic world and he is outstandingly revered for the variety of his prolific production in literature, Sufism, wisdom and so on. He has also written on Political philosophy. His work known as Sāz va Pirāyeh Shāhān Pormāyeh (the affairs of wealthy kings) is his most significant work in this area in which he discusses major political issues of his time in fluent Persian. The work is significant for its representation of political thought after Islamic. This paper briefly reviews political works by Bābā Afzal and discusses the effect of previous related sources especially those of Khajeh Nazām Almulk on his political writing. The paper especially targets Bābā Afzal’s unique views on the politics and government of histime.
