Abstract

Golchaghāneh is a shrine building that is still notable for performing mourning rituals. The main building and its surroundings are located in the Golchaghāneh Alley branching from Fazel Naraghi Street. This building has been registered in the National Monuments List in 2003 under the number 9032. The primitive monument consists of a tomb and a hosseinieh or a religious center. The complex has newer parts, including service departments, dating back to the 1990s, and other parts, including a new hosseinieh, are currently being built. Changes in the urban context of the neighborhood center as well as interventions in the building have changed its original form. However, there has been no study on the formation and evolution of the building. It is therefore feared that these changes will diminish our understanding of the complex and its urban position. This article seeks to study the architectural and historical features of the building, including its formation and changes. The research method used is historical descriptive and the data are collected through interviews, field surveys and references to historical documents and texts. According to these studies, Golchaghāneh is a type of pre-Qajar shrine that has also been used as a tomb and has become a focal point for religious ceremonies
