Abstract

This article discusses the structural and thematic aspects of poetry by Sorour Azam Bakouji, known as Sepideh Kashani. Her poetry contains not only revolutionary poems before the Islamic Revolution in Iran but also those about imposed war on Iran by Iraq. Regarding this fact, the writer of the current study tries to discuss which types of genres, figures, images, as well as language have been used to convey the poet’s feelings in such situations through an analytical-descriptive approach. It is argued that Kashani has written her poems to admire Iranian soldiers’ bravery, to raise their spirits of martyrdom, and to encourage them to bolster their defense of their own land. To this end, she has wielded a simple, fluent, realistic, and tangible language while putting it into classic and contemporary genres of poetry to reflect the zeitgeist. Among the figures of speech employed by Sepideh, personification and simile are the most frequent ones due to their potentiality to create and convey the intended impression.
