The Shrine of Imamzadeh Sultan Ali in Ardehal village, Kashan County, holds significant value due to its historical and cultural background. Renowned for the "Carpet Washing Ceremony" and housing artifacts from the Seljuk, Safavid, and Qajar periods, this monument is of particular importance. This research aims to examine the motifs and inscriptions of the two remaining wooden doors of the shrine and their decorative elements. Consequently, it seeks to answer the following questions: What is the content of the inscriptions on the wooden doors of Imamzadeh Sultan Ali? And what decorative techniques are employed on these two doors?
Utilizing a descriptive-analytical and historical method, this study investigates the two wooden doors known as the "Soffeh al-Safa" door and the "Former School Entrance" door at the Imamzadeh Sultan Ali Shrine in Aran and Bidgol. It examines historical details by relying on library so urces and documents.
The inscriptions on the Former School door primarily contain religious and Shiite themes, utilizing Quranic verses, alongside historical information such as the name of the endower and the construction date. In contrast, the inscriptions on the Soffeh al-Safa portico door are mainly historical, including the names of artists, endowers, the contemporary king, and common titles of the Safavid period. Regarding decoration, the School door, consistent with Timurid era ornamentation, features geometric patterns alongside calligraphy and an emphasis on numbers such as four, six, and eight. Conversely, the Portico door, by combining geometric, eslimi, and khatayi motifs, reveals the influence of Safavid art and Shiite concepts.
