The precise origin of some Iranian pottery adorned with fish motifs, currently housed in various museum collections, remains undetermined. However, a comparative analysis of the stylistic characteristics of these artifacts with known examples from different regions can provide a basis for hypothesizing their potential production center. This study examined four pottery pieces featuring fish motifs from the Honolulu Museum of Art: one underglaze-decorated plate and three luster-painted tiles. Data were gathered through extensive literature reviews and consultation of credible sources. The analysis focused on formal attributes, construction techniques, glaze types, and stylistic markers, including the fish motif, compositional arrangement, and execution of decorative elements, employing a comparative approach to deepen the understanding of their likely provenance. In this process, the studied pieces were compared with Kashan productions from the same period to highlight their similarities and differences. The results indicate a significant concordance between these artifacts and Kashan pottery in terms of the aforementioned indicators, supporting the hypothesis that they originated from Kashan workshops. This comparative analysis mitigates ambiguities concerning the provenance of the artifacts, enabling a more accurate and scholarly understanding of them.
